Why is the chat via text instead of video call?
After an extensive round of trials, we determined that the chat time is used more efficiently via text versus a live video conference. We are doing real-time creative problem solving during the chat and are referencing the information you sent us as well as searching online for images that illustrate the solutions we suggest. The designers are most effective when they are focused on creativity and not distracted by the live video feed. It’s all about fabulous interior design… not hair & makeup!

Who are the design-chat services for?
The design-chat team believes that most people have the ability to create lovely and functional homes that reflect their personal style while benefiting from occasional guidance and advice from a professional. Our services are based on empowering our clients to make thoughtful design decisions that they are then able to implement.How is design-chat different from e-design services and conventional interior design services?
While most online services and design firms are interested in selling you a comprehensive design package, the design-chat team is focused on providing you only with the specific input that you need to solve your design problems. Wether you just need quick advice on a paint color or detailed recommendations to invigorate an entire room, we can help. It’s a more cost-effective way to collaborate with a designer as you only pay for the exact assistance that you require.What if I need more time?
After your text-chat is complete, you’ll have the option to book another 15 or 30 minute text-chat for additional advice about the same design challenge. This option allows you to bypass the questionnaire step and get your additional questions answered. If you need help on a different project, we ask that you purchase a 20/40/60 minute text-chat and complete a new questionnaire. Many of our clients book consultation sessions periodically for ongoing projects.
How much can we accomplish during a text-chat?
Our clients tell us they are very happy with the amount that can be accomplished during a text-chat. The design team thoroughly reviews the information and photos from your questionnaire before the chat and is ready to design when the chat begins. As we’re constantly in design mode, it’s easy for us to offer quick and creative advice tailored to your specific challenges. If you aren’t sure exactly what time you need for a text chat, drop us a note and tell us about your project, and we’ll recommend a timeframe.
When is the soonest I can schedule the chat?
Once you complete the questionnaire, you will be sent a link to book a text chat time. Times are available within 5 business days of when you complete your questionnaire and are scheduled Monday through Friday between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm c.s.t (excluding holidays).
What vendors do you use?
We have experience with an extensive list of retail vendors, but are also happy to focus on your personal favorites. Please note that we do receive a small commission (at no extra charge to you) from some vendors and this helps us to offset the fees we charge for our services. Our first commitment is always to find the best solution for you.
Are the items you recommend in stock?
We will make every effort to only recommend items that can be obtained in the timeframe that indicated in your questionnaire. As supplies can be a bit unpredictable, we are happy to suggest an alternative if you discover an item that isn’t available when you receive your design package.
How long will it take to receive my design package?
Paint palettes and space plans are prepared and sent to you within five business days of the text chat. The creative solutions and full room makeovers are sent within seven business days of the text chat.
Can I ask questions after I receive the design package?
Once you receive the design package, you’ll be able to send the design team questions regarding the solution via the client portal.
What topics aren't handled in design-chat?
We are only able to provide input on decorative elements and will not be able to advise on structural changes.
Can you work within my budget?
We take budget very seriously and are mindful of providing options that fit the parameters you indicate in the questionnaire. As we may be giving you an assortment of options, it is up to you to make decisions that align with your financial goals for the project. If you’re unsure about how much to allocate for your project, we suggest that you start with a 20 minute text-chat and we can help you to establish a budget based on your goals. It’s often ideal to develop an overall design plan and prioritize purchases so that you can implement changes and add new pieces over time as your budget allows.
What if the paint palette isn't working in my space?
Our recommendations are based on the specific input that you give us about your goals for the space and our extensive history with color palettes. However, light can be tricky, so if you feel that the colors are a bit off in your space you can get in touch with us via the client portal and we can typically make slight adjustments to remedy the issue.
What if I require changes to the space plan?
Revisions to space plans are not included as most of our clients are content to implement the basic layout of the plan and make minor adjustments without requiring a new drawing. If you would like a revised plan, we are happy to provide you with a customized estimate which can be requested via the client portal.
What is the cancellation policy?
We understand that everyone has unexpected conflicts that occur. You can reschedule your chat once within two weeks of completing your questionnaire. Rescheduling can occur up to 24 hours before the chat. If you miss your chat, there is no refund. In the very unlikely event that the design-chat team needs to reschedule your chat, we’ll reschedule it as quickly as possible and give you an additional 20 minute session at no charge.
What if I am dissatisfied with the guidance that I receive?
The design team is made up of professional interior designers with a wealth of experience. Our primary goal is to empower you to solve your design problems with customized advice that is based on the detailed information that you provide to us about your project. However, it is not possible for us to guarantee that you will be satisfied with all the advice provided. If you need additional input please get in touch with us via the client portal.
